South Albany High School students learn about vocational/technical education

Posted on: May 20, 2016

South Albany High School students attended the 2016 Willamette Valley Construction Career Day in Salem on May 10 at the Oregon State Fairgrounds.

The event brought industry experts together to teach students about the range of career options in the construction field. Students drove mini-excavators, hammered, laid brick and visited with professionals from a variety of the building and transportation trades.

A goal of GAPS is to prepare students to pursue successful post-high school opportunities, including hands-on vocational careers. Students have access at South Albany High School to construction and metals classes. The following photos are from the Metals I class, where students learn introductory skills in machining and four different kinds of welding.
