After an exhaustive investigation stemming from the social media post threatening violence towards South Albany High School, the Albany Police Department has concluded there is no safety risk to students or staff at this time.
Currently, the Albany Police Department has determined the original social media post regarding a possible threat to staff and students at SAHS originated outside of the Albany area. Through a careful investigation, local students were interviewed and it was determined that the original juvenile who started this rumor had South Albany High School confused with Sweet Home High School where an active investigation is still underway. The juvenile who made the original statement has been identified. Again, there is no credible threat to staff or students at South Albany High School, or any GAPS student or staff member at this time.
Out of an abundance of caution, multiple officers were present at South Albany High School and numerous other schools in Albany this morning while the investigation was being finalized.
We want to thank our community members and brave students who came forward with essential information that aided in the investigation. We take all threats seriously and work closely with APD to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We also want to acknowledge the quick response by Albany Police yesterday evening, as well as their presence at schools this morning.
We encourage people to remain vigilant and if they see something, say something.
