Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”) is a federal law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in all educational programs and activities, including athletic programs.  No person shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity operated by the District.  Title IX protects all participants in the District’s educational programs and activities, including students, parents, employees, and job applicants.  The District does not discriminate on the basis of sex.  Discrimination on the basis of sex can include sexual harassment and sexual violence. 

Title IX information provided here applies to every school site and to all District programs and activities.  


Student Rights Under Title IX  

The following list of rights are based on the relevant provisions of the federal regulations implementing Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (20 U.S.C. Sec. 1681 et seq.).

  1. You have the right to fair and equitable treatment and you shall not be discriminated against based on your sex.
  2. You have the right to be provided with an equitable opportunity to participate in all academic extracurricular activities, including athletics.
  3. You have the right to inquire of the athletic director of your school as to the athletic opportunities offered by the school.
  4. You have the right to apply for athletic scholarships.
  5. You have the right to receive equitable treatment and benefits in the provision of all of the following:
    • Equipment and supplies.
    • Scheduling of games and practices.
    • Transportation and daily allowances.
    • Access to tutoring.
    • Coaching.
    • Locker rooms.
    • Practice and competitive facilities.
    • Medical and training facilities and services.
    • Publicity.
  6. You have the right to have access to the Title IX coordinator to answer questions regarding gender equity laws.
  7. You have the right to contact the State Department of Education and the Oregon School Activities Association to access information on gender equity laws.
  8. You have the right to file a confidential discrimination complaint with the United States Office of Civil Rights or the Oregon Department of Education if you believe you have been discriminated against or if you believe you have received unequal treatment on the basis of your sex.
  9. You have the right to pursue civil remedies if you have been discriminated against.
  10. You have the right to be protected against retaliation if you file a discrimination complaint
  11. Pregnant students and teen parents have a right to equal education, full participation, and they have the right to remain in their regular or current school program, including special education and non-public school placements, alternative/options programs, free and reduced lunch programs and services for English Learners, and any other programs for which they are otherwise qualified.

Título IX

El Título IX de las Enmiendas a la Educación de 1972 (“Título IX”) es una ley federal que prohíbe la discriminación basada en el sexo en todos los programas y actividades educativas, incluidos los programas deportivos. Ninguna persona, en base a su sexo, será excluida de la participación, se le negarán los beneficios o será objeto de discriminación en cualquier programa educativo o actividad operada por el Distrito. El Título IX protege a todos los participantes en los programas y actividades educativas del Distrito, incluidos los estudiantes, padres, empleados y solicitantes de empleo. El Distrito no discrimina por motivos de sexo. La discriminación basada en el sexo puede incluir el acoso sexual y la violencia sexual.

Derechos de los estudiantes bajo el Título IX

  6. Tiene derecho a tener acceso al coordinador del Título IX para contestar sus preguntas sobre las leyes de equidad del género.
  7. Tiene derecho a comunicarse con el Departamento de Educación del Estado y la Asociación de Actividades Escolares de Oregón para acceder a información sobre las leyes de equidad de género.
  8. Tiene derecho a presentar una queja confidencial por discriminación ante la Oficina de Derechos Civiles de los Estados Unidos o el Departamento de Educación de Oregón si cree que ha sido discriminado o si cree que ha recibido un trato desigual en función de su sexo
  9. Tiene derecho a buscar recursos civiles si ha sido discriminado
  10. Tiene derecho a estar protegido contra represalias si presenta una queja por discriminación
  11. Las estudiantes embarazadas y los padres adolescentes tienen derecho a la igualdad de educación. participación plena y tienen derecho a permancecer en su programa escolar regular o actual, incluida la educación especial y las ubicaciones en escuelas no públicas, programas alternativos/programas de opciones, programas de almuerzo gratics o a precio reducido, y servicios para aprendices de inglés y cualquier otro programa para el cual estén calificados.
