After consultation with the Linn County Health Department and with a commitment to the health of our students, staff, and teachers, Periwinkle Elementary will be closed on Monday, Nov. 25. All other Greater Albany Public Schools will remain open on Monday as all schools are being sanitized today and before school tomorrow. We will continue to monitor the situation and will send updates as needed.
Though your children’s school may be open, all students and staff should remain home for at least 48 hours after the symptoms have ended. Common symptoms from this virus have been vomiting and diarrhea. Other symptoms may include fever (100.4 degrees F or higher), fatigue (very tired), muscle or body aches, headache, chills, sore throat, cough, and a stuffy or runny nose.
Continue to make sure your kids and family are frequently washing their hands – including between fingers – with soap and warm water, washing for 15 to 20 seconds. Sing the ABCs slowly while scrubbing to ensure a thorough wash. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol based hand sanitizer. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth to prevent the spread of germs.
Again, if your child is affected, be sure to keep them home until they have been fever free or not vomited for at least 48 hours to help prevent the spread.
