Q: Why did you want to serve on the GAPS Board?
A: To represent, and be an advocate for, my community for what I feel is one of the most crucial and important aspects of our society….to educate our youth. There is no greater challenge with a better reward than being an advocate for children.
Q: How much time and energy is required to be an effective School Board member?
A: Honestly, there are times when I feel like I could spend all of my time and still never be effective to the level that everyone needs and deserves. There are truly so many needs related to education. Ensuring all students receive the best education, communication, advocacy, safety, transportation, facilities, nutrition, and so much more.
Q: What has been the most rewarding aspect of being a Board member?
A: Hearing from students, parents, faculty or community members about how much they appreciate my advocacy for their well-being and our schools’ and students’ success.
Q: What are some challenges you and your fellow Board members face?
A: Always funding and resources. There are so many great people with great ideas, but never enough financial resources to really provide the resources needed to do everything and do it well. Therefore, we are always having to juggle various priorities, all of which have equal importance and impact on the success of our students.
Q: What do you like best about Albany and the Mid-Willamette Valley?
A: I love the fact that Albany is a community that comes together in times of need to support one another.
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: I love to spend time with my family. And, I enjoy photography, and am known for pretty much always having my camera with me and capturing the events around me and then sharing them with others.
Q: What do you hope to achieve in your time as a School Board member?
A: I hope to help ensure we have continued growth in our students’ education and our educational offerings for college or career readiness. Also, that we find ways to address behavior and emotional and mental health issues so our education system is successful and safe for everyone.

P: ¿Por qué quisiste servir en la Mesa Directiva de GAPS?
R: Para representar y defender a mi comunidad, por lo que siento es uno de los aspectos más esencial e importante de nuestra sociedad……para educar a nuestros jóvenes. No hay mayor desafío con una mejor recompensa que ser un defensor de los niños.
P: ¿Cuánto tiempo y energía se requiere para ser un miembro eficaz de la Mesa Directiva?
R: Honestamente, hay momentos en que siento que podría pasar todo mi tiempo en esto y aún nunca ser efectivo al nivel que todos necesitan y merecen. Realmente hay muchas necesidades relacionadas con la educación. Asegurar que todos los estudiantes reciban la mejor educación, comunicación, defensoría, seguridad, transportación, instalaciones, nutrición y mucho más.
P: ¿Cuál ha sido el aspecto más gratificante de ser miembro de la Mesa Directiva?
R: Escuchar de los estudiantes, padres, miembros del cuerpo docente o de la comunidad sobre cuánto aprecian mi defensoría de su bienestar y el éxito de nuestras escuelas y estudiantes.
P: ¿Cuáles son algunos de los desafíos que usted y los demás miembros de la Mesa Directiva enfrentan?
R: Siempre la financiación y los recursos. Hay tantas personas excelentes con grandes ideas, pero nunca suficientes recursos financieros para realmente proporcionar los recursos necesarios para hacer todo y hacerlo bien. Por lo tanto, siempre tenemos que manejar múltiples prioridades, todas las cuales tienen igual importancia e impacto en el éxito de nuestros estudiantes.
P: ¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de Albany y el valle Mid-Willamette?
R: Me encanta el hecho de que Albany es una comunidad que se reúne en tiempos de necesidad para apoyarse mutuamente.
P: ¿Qué te gusta hacer para divertirte?
R: Me encanta pasar tiempo con mi familia. Y disfruto de la fotografía y soy conocido por casi siempre tener mi cámara conmigo y capturar los eventos a mí alrededor y luego compartirlos con otros.
P: ¿Qué espera lograr en su tiempo como miembro de la Mesa Directiva?
R: Espero ayudar a asegurar que tengamos un crecimiento continuo en la educación de nuestros estudiantes y nuestros ofrecimientos educativos para la preparación universitaria o profesional. Además, que encontremos formas de abordar el problema de comportamiento, y salud mental y emocional para que nuestro sistema educativo sea exitoso y seguro para todos.
