Interim Superintendent Rob Saxton has followed his family line of educators and dedicated his career to education. His first teaching experience was here at GAPS as a math teacher and coach at West Albany High School. He then moved over to South Albany High School where he taught and served as the head football coach. His 10-year GAPS career culminated with an assistant principal position at West Albany High School.
Following his career with GAPS, Saxton became a superintendent for Sherwood School District for 5 years, and superintendent for Tigard-Tualatin School District for another 7 years.
Continuing in education leadership, Saxton moved up to the Chief of Oregon Schools position where he led the Oregon Department of Education from preK-12 for 3 years, and soon landed the Superintendent of Northwest Regional Education Service District (NWRESD) position. Saxton led student outcome improvements for 163,000 students, worked with 20 school districts and Oregon Legislature, and implemented the first Equity and Inclusion Department during his time with NWRESD.
Besides his professional career, Saxton has gained skills in other areas including fly fishing, home remodeling, and exercise. Here are a few fun facts about our new Interim Superintendent:
- His favorite sweet snack is Mud Pie
- He loves reading to his grandchildren
- He flipped a whole house last year
- He has been retired for two years
- He ran in the Boston Marathon three times
- His camera roll is full of fishing photos and his grandkids

El Superintendente interino Rob Saxton ha seguido la línea familiar de educadores y ha dedicado su carrera a la educación. Su primera experiencia docente fue aquí en el Distrito escolar de Greater Albany (GAPS por sus siglas en inglés), como maestro de matemáticas y entrenador en la preparatoria West Albany High School antes de cambiarse a la preparatoria South Albany High School, donde enseñó y se desempeñó como entrenador en jefe de fútbol americano.
