Q: Why did you want to serve on the GAPS Board? 
A: I believe that the opportunity to receive a good education is the most important thing we can provide our children. We will all benefit from that effort.

Q: How much time and energy is required to be an effective School Board member?  
A: At least 6-10 board meeting hours per month and possibly 1-4 auxiliary meeting hours per month.

Q: What has been the most rewarding aspect of being a Board member? 
A: Working with people who have a passion for educating children. This work is possibly some of the most important and rewarding effort we can undertake as a community.

Q: What are some challenges you and your fellow Board members face? 
A: Being the effective eyes and ears of the district patrons in prudently spending the funds paid by citizens in the effort of educating their children and grandchildren.

Q: What do you like best about Albany and the Mid-Willamette Valley?  
A: Albany is a very generous community of hardworking people and it has been my privilege to live and work here since 1973. The community support for the public school system is incredible and heartwarming and it will be a wonderful experience to fulfill my time on the board no matter how long it is.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?  
A: I am an amateur radio operator and enjoy talking with other operators all over the world. I also like to snow ski and have had the fun of teaching my grandchildren how to ski. My wife Elaine and I own an RV and we like to travel.

Q: What do you hope to achieve in your time as a School Board member?  
A: Overview of the current bond construction project and maintain stability in district management.

R: Creo que la oportunidad de recibir una buena educación es lo más importante que podemos ofrecer a nuestros hijos. Todos nos beneficiamos de ese esfuerzo.

P: ¿Cuánto tiempo y energía se requiere para ser un miembro eficaz de la Mesa Directiva?
R: Al menos de 6 a 10 horas de reuniones de la Mesa Directiva por mes y posiblemente 1 a 4 horas de reuniones auxiliares por mes.

P: ¿Cuál ha sido el aspecto más gratificante de ser miembro de la Mesa Directiva?
R: Trabajar con personas apasionadas por educar a los niños. Este trabajo es posiblemente uno de los esfuerzos más importantes y gratificantes que podemos emprender como comunidad.

P: ¿Cuáles son algunos de los desafíos que usted y los demás miembros de la Mesa Directiva enfrentan?
R: Ser los ojos y oídos efectivos del público del distrito al gastar prudentemente los fondos pagados por los ciudadanos en el esfuerzo de educar a sus hijos y nietos.

P: ¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de Albany y el valle Mid-Willamette?
R: Albany es una comunidad muy generosa de personas trabajadoras y ha sido un privilegio vivir y trabajar aquí desde 1973. El apoyo de la comunidad para el sistema de escuelas públicas es increíble y conmovedor, y será una experiencia maravillosa cumplir mi tiempo en la Mesa Directiva, sin importar cuanto tiempo sea.

P: ¿Qué te gusta hacer para divertirte?
R: Soy un radioperador aficionado y disfruto hablando con otros radioperadores de todo el mundo. También me gusta esquiar en la nieve y me he divertido enseñando a mis nietos a esquiar. Mi esposa Elaine y yo tenemos un vehículo recreativo “RV” y nos gusta viajar.

P: ¿Qué espera lograr en su tiempo como miembro de la Mesa Directiva?
R: Supervisión del actual proyecto de construcción de bono escolar y mantener la estabilidad en la gestión del distrito.

Q: Why did you want to serve on the GAPS Board?
A: Advocating for youth is my number one goal. I also wanted to change the dynamics of the board and add diversity. 

Q: How much time and energy is required to be an effective School Board member?
A: The majority of the time is reading, listening, and studying. It’s kind of like you’re in school again. 

Q: What has been the most rewarding aspect of being a Board member?
A: Recognizing students for their accomplishments and connecting underrepresented communities with our resources.  

Q: What are some challenges you and your fellow Board members face?
A: The budget is always tight, and some of the “fires” that pop-up. 

Q: What do you like best about Albany and the Mid-Willamette Valley?
A: It’s not too big and not too small. Albany has a great community to connect with, and you won’t be judged for wearing sweats to Fred Meyer. 

Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: My friends and I have a weekly podcast that is a lot of fun. I also enjoy duck hunting. 

Q: What do you hope to achieve in your time as a School Board member?
A: I really want to listen to the community, staff, parents, and students. I want to listen to the wants, needs, and frustrations and see what the board can do.

R: La mayoría de las veces es leer, escuchar y estudiar, es como estar de nuevo en la escuela.

P: ¿Cuál ha sido el aspecto más gratificante de ser miembro de la Mesa Directiva?
R: Reconociendo a los estudiantes por sus logros y conectando las comunidades que carecen de representación con nuestros recursos.

P: ¿Cuáles son algunos de los desafíos que usted y los demás miembros de la Mesa Directiva enfrentan?
R: El presupuesto siempre es ajustado y algunos de los “incendios” que surgen.

P: ¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de Albany y el valle Mid-Willamette?
R: No es demasiado grande ni demasiado pequeño. Albany tiene una gran comunidad para conectarnos con y no serás juzgado por usar pants/pantalones deportivos “sweats” para ir a Fred Meyer.

P: ¿Qué te gusta hacer para divertirte?
R: Mis amigos y yo tenemos un podcast semanal que es muy divertido. También me gusta la caza de patos.

P: ¿Qué espera lograr en su tiempo como miembro de la Mesa Directiva?
R: Realmente quiero escuchar a la comunidad, el personal, los padres y a los estudiantes. Quiero escuchar los deseos, las necesidades y frustraciones, y ver qué puede hacer la Mesa Directiva.
