GREATER ALBANY PUBLIC SCHOOLS and the Albany Public Library have partnered to make sure that every GAPS student has a public library card!

All schools should have provided all K-12 students with an ID card with a name and barcode to use at the public library. There are excellent summer programs for all ages at the public library, and access to resources, so now is a good time to make sure you have both accounts linked. Parents should check with individual schools if they are not sure if they granted permission at registration or not.

How to access online resources with your GAPS/Albany Public Library student account:

1. Go to http://bit.ly/GAPS-APL
2. At the log-in screen, enter your Student ID Number for your Library Card Number
3. Your PIN/Password = the first three letters of your first name (all lowercase) + the last 3 digits of your ID #

Example: joe789

You can also use the internet services at the library by using this login information. There are many other library resources available to you online, including Library2go (digital versions of currently popular print titles you can check out online). We love our libraries!

ON MAY 6th, our board members, principals, parents, teachers, staff, and students all gathered at West Albany High to honor two students from each school who have demonstrated excellence as individuals. Students were summoned to the stage by their principals, who shared their virtues, and after the students shook hands with each board member, they were presented with a certificate of excellence.

El 6 de mayo, los miembros de nuestra Mesa Directiva, directores, padres, maestros, el personal y los estudiantes se reunieron en West Albany High para reconocer a dos estudiantes de cada escuela que han demostrado excelencia como individuos. Los estudiantes fueron llamados a pasar al escenario por los directores de sus escuelas, quienes compartieron sobre sus virtudes, las cuales le llevaron a ganar dicho premio. Congratulations to North Albany Elementary School 5th grader, Mikayla Chaffins, for winning first place at the county spelling bee!

Mikayla will go on to the state competition on August 1st at the State Fair.

 ➡ Bandas combinadas de la secundaria de GAPS: Haga clic AQUÍ

THE COMBINED GAPS bands, Timber Ridge, Calapooia, North Albany and Memorial, performed in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) in Newport, Oregon on May 1, 2019. All the students in the bands are in the 7th and 8th grade, and the guest conductor was Scott McKee, executive director of the Western International Band Clinic and American Band College.

The performance was part of the Oregon Music Educators Association District XI Band & Orchestra Festival which took place all day at the PAC. Middle school bands and orchestras from Albany, Corvallis, Lincoln City, Turner, Eugene, Lebanon, Harrisburg and Philomath performed throughout the day. It wasn’t a competition, but rather an educational festival where McKee along with another guest clinician, Joe Ingram, offered written and aural comments and suggestions for improvement to each of the performing groups. Each band performed and listened to and supported the other schools, gaining valuable information and the amazing experience of performing in this beautiful concert hall. They also spent fun time at the beach!

Thanks to the many parents and volunteers who helped make the event possible. Also, special thanks to our four Albany middle school band directors: Daniel Mitchell, Timber Ridge; Randy Solansky, Memorial; Mathew Scott, Calapooia; and Andy Nelson, North Albany.

Las bandas de combinadas de GAPS, secundarias Timber Ridge, Calapooia, North Albany y Memorial, se presentaron en el Centro de Artes (Performing Arts Center-PAC) en Newport, Oregon, el 1 de mayo de 2019. Todos los estudiantes están en los grados 7° y 8°, y el director invitado es el Sr. Scott McKee, director ejecutivo de Western International Band Clinic y American Band College.

La presentación fue parte del Festival de Banda y Orquesta del Distrito XI de la Asociación de Educadores de Música de Oregon, que se llevó a cabo durante todo el día en el PAC. Bandas y orquestas de secundaria de Albany, Corvallis, Lincoln City, Turner, Eugene, Lebanon, Harrisburg y Philomath, se presentaron durante todo el día. No fue una competencia, sino un festival educativo donde el Sr. McKee junto con otro director invitado, el Sr. Joe Ingram, ofrecieron comentarios escritos y auditivos y sugerencias para mejorar a cada uno de los grupos. Cada banda tocó, escuchó y apoyó a las otras escuelas, obteniendo información valiosa y una experiencia única en esta hermosa sala de conciertos. ¡También pasaron momentos divertidos en la playa!
