Superintendent Golden announces principal selection for Periwinkle

A new principal has been selected to serve at Periwinkle Elementary School for the 2017-18 school year. The following is a statement by Superintendent Jim Golden:

We are pleased to announce that after a thorough hiring process involving almost 30 stake-holders, that Chaundra Smith has been selected to serve as the next Principal at Periwinkle Elementary.

Mrs. Smith has been an educator in the Corvallis School District at both the elementary and middle school level for twenty years.  In that time, she has worked as a dual-language classroom teacher, district ELD Coordinator and instructional coach. The committee was impressed with her approachable affect, her clear communication style and her passion for under-served students. She is also known as a skilled facilitator and a systems thinker.

We are very excited to welcome Mrs. Smith to the Periwinkle and GAPS family.

School Board honors Tangent Student All Stars

On Monday, the School Board honored Student All-Stars from Tangent Elementary School for their motivation, perseverance, growth, and school and community service.

Tangent students are:

Kyleigh Grieser-King

A true leader and a collaborative worker, Kyleigh consistently seeks to learn more about any subject that she comes upon.  She sets an example for others as an engaged and caring member of the learning community.

Dylan Galvan-Northrup

Dylan is always kind to everyone and is one of those special students who can work well with anyone. When younger students need to be paired with a role model for self management, Dylan naturally comes to mind. Dylan takes a daily run with students while other students eat breakfast and has welcomed another younger learner to participate safely and respectfully alongside him in PE.

School Board honors Oak Elementary Student All Stars

On Monday, the School Board honored Student All-Stars from Oak Elementary School for their motivation, perseverance, growth, and school and community service.

Oak Elementary students are:

Ashley Gibbs

Ashley is always on task, makes good choices and encourages other to do the same.  If she does not understand a concept, she is not afraid to ask for help. When she understands a concept well, she is always ready and willing to help other students.

Ryan Diller

Ryan is a motivated student who always gives his best effort to any task.  He is willing to take risks and try even when faced with a new and challenging task.  Ryan uses his mistakes as an opportunity to learn.  He is not content to learn the basics – he always strives for more and loves challenges.  Students in our room look up to Ryan.  He sets a good example of behavior and is always in a good mood and willing to help.   

School Board honors North Albany Elementary Student All Stars

On Monday, the School Board honored Student All-Stars from North Albany Elementary School for their motivation, perseverance, growth, and school and community service.

North Albany Elementary students are:

Hadley Huzefka

Hadley is a student who demonstrates respect and kindness towards her peers and adults daily.  She is always one who can be counted on to be a leader at school and demonstrates this through her actions. She is one of the first to volunteer to help or participate in class and always makes sure others are included.  She has a positive attitude and uses it to encourage and inspire others around her.    

Sayer Latta

Sayer Latta is an active member of North Albany Elementary’s Youth Changing the World club. As part of this club, he has been involved in many activities that make NAE and our community a better place. One recent activity Sayer was involved in was helping create videos that promote positive behaviors at school. Sayer is also a student who models excellent behavior and shows kindness toward all students.

High school students: Sign up for LBCC summer learning programs

LBCC has opened registration for its annual high school summer academies. Students who are entering grades 9-12 or have just graduated can sign up for a three-day hands-on learning experience in four in-demand training programs.

Options are:

  • Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD)
  • Machine Tool
  • Mechatronics Technician
  • Welding

Each program last three days and runs three hours each day. Registration is free.
