Lafayette modular classrooms will open on schedule

Posted on: July 30, 2017

Lafayette Elementary School has a growing enrollment. The school is getting a new modular classroom structure to accommodate the larger student body. The building will be ready when school starts on Sept. 5.

The new building is similar to the modular constructed at Periwinkle Elementary School last fall. It will have six classrooms, restrooms and a commons area.

The modular building was constructed offsite in 18 sections, which were then trucked to the campus and craned into position. The roof framing is in place and most of the plywood sheeting has been installed. Heating and ventilation systems are going in and interior plastering is underway.

This building project is not a bond project. It was approved before voters passed the bond measure on May 16 and is funded by proceeds from the Construction Excise Tax and district reserves.
