Lafayette modular classrooms will open on schedule

Posted on: July 30, 2017

Lafayette Elementary School has a growing enrollment. The school is getting a new modular classroom structure to accommodate the larger student body. The building will be ready when school starts on Sept. 5.

The new building is similar to the modular constructed at Periwinkle Elementary School last fall. It will have six classrooms, restrooms and a commons area.

The modular building was constructed offsite in 18 sections, which were then trucked to the campus and craned into position. The roof framing is in place and most of the plywood sheeting has been installed. Heating and ventilation systems are going in and interior plastering is underway.

This building project is not a bond project. It was approved before voters passed the bond measure on May 16 and is funded by proceeds from the Construction Excise Tax and district reserves.

Lafayette Elementary School gets new classrooms for growing enrollment

Posted on: July 10, 2017

Last year, the School Board approved new modular classrooms at Lafayette Elementary School to ease the increasing enrollment. The structure is similar to the one installed at Periwinkle last summer.

The classrooms will be ready for students in September. This work was approved prior to the passage of the May 2017 construction bond, which will add classrooms at schools around the district. The project is funded out of district operating funds.

The building will have six classrooms, restrooms and a common area. Eight of the 16 building sections have arrived at the campus and the remaining eight will come in groups of four by Monday. On Tuesday, a crane will begin placing the classroom sections.

Workers are placing the beams that will be part of the foundation. Each vertical piece rests on a poured concrete pad.
