Posted on: June 26, 2016

The new cafeteria at South Albany High School is almost finished. It will be done when staff come back before school starts in September.

The community support for the reconstruction has been tremendous. Albany Public Schools Foundation has collected significant donations from community donations that will help fund new equipment for students, such as band instruments.

We want to show the building off to the community. An open house is planned for Sept. 24 Please note the date change. Watch for more details.

South Albany High School students learn about vocational/technical education

Posted on: May 20, 2016

South Albany High School students attended the 2016 Willamette Valley Construction Career Day in Salem on May 10 at the Oregon State Fairgrounds.

The event brought industry experts together to teach students about the range of career options in the construction field. Students drove mini-excavators, hammered, laid brick and visited with professionals from a variety of the building and transportation trades.

A goal of GAPS is to prepare students to pursue successful post-high school opportunities, including hands-on vocational careers. Students have access at South Albany High School to construction and metals classes. The following photos are from the Metals I class, where students learn introductory skills in machining and four different kinds of welding.

What do we want for our schools? Come to an Oregon Rising meeting

Posted on: May 20, 2016

GAPS is joining school districts around the state to learn what Oregonians want for their children and their schools. This effort, Oregon Rising, is an opportunity to dream big and imagine what education could be.

It is also a chance for the GAPS District and School Board to ask what our community wants for its schools – the educational programs and school facilities.

Please join us at the last Oregon Rising community forum this month:
