Budget Committee meeting on May 10 postponed
In order to build a budget which best reflects the district’s use of limited resources, the Greater Albany Public Schools Budget Committee meeting on May 10 has been postponed. The first meeting of the Committee will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17 at the District Office. The May 17 date aligns with the state’s next revenue forecast, which should give the district the most accurate information for the 2023-24 budget.
Pending approval of the GAPS School Board on May 22, the new Budget Committee schedule will be as follows:
- May 17 at 7 p.m. at the District Office – Budget message to the Budget Committee
- May 24 at 7 p.m. at the District Office – Budget Committee approve the budget
- May 31 at 7 p.m. at the District Office – Budget Committee public comment
- June 12 at 7 p.m. at Oak Grove Elementary – School Board holds budget hearing
- June 26 at 6 p.m. at the District Office – School Board adopts the budget
All Budget Committee meetings are open to the public and will be streamed live on the District’s YouTube account at www.youtube.com/@GreaterAlbanyPublicSchools.

Budget Committee Public Comment Guidelines
- A sign-up sheet will become available at the District Office 15 minutes prior to the meeting start time. All district residents or guardians who have signed up will be allowed to speak prior to a second comment. Information required to be listed for residents or guardians to make a comment is name, affirmation of district residence, and school.
- People wishing to make a public comment via Zoom must email Lindsey Hart (lindsey.hart@albany.k12.or.us) by 4:00pm on the day of the meeting (5/31/23) to sign up and receive the Zoom link. All district residents or guardians who have signed up will be allowed to speak prior to a second comment. Participants will be put in a virtual waiting room until it is their turn to provide public comment. The participant is responsible for ensuring they are ready to provide comments related to the budget when it is their turn. After providing comment, the participant will be removed from the Zoom meeting and able to watch the remainder of the Budget Committee meeting via YouTube.
- Comments will be limited to residents or guardians of students who attend school in the district. If a comment or question is being submitted by a guardian who lives outside the district, the guardian will be required to affirm they have a student attending GAPS who they are representing, and list the school where the student attends.
- Each comment will be given a three-minute time period. During this time, the comment can be delivered and discussed. Number of comments at each listening session will vary depending on length of comments.
- After the three-minute period, the chairperson will move on to the next commenter. With that said, that does not mean the comment is complete. One of the Budget Committee members or district staff may follow up as needed or appropriate.
- Complaints about staff members will not be heard during the budget’s public comment session and must follow KL Public Complaint and KL-AR Public Complaint Procedures. Following policy BDDH, speakers may offer objective criticism of district operations and programs, but the Budget Committee will not hear any complaints concerning individual district personnel. Comments must be directly related to the GAPS 2023-24 budget.
- Public comment with stakeholders will last a maximum of 1.5 hours.
