Reminder for Parents from Principal Everest: Attendance Concerns

The word principalRegular school attendance is vital to student success and good habits.  Please help your child arrive at school on time and regularly.

Our school is not the same with out each and every child!

To help clarify what is an excused or unexcused absence, here’s some more information:

  • Absence from school may be excused by the administrator (or designee).
  • If you would like to request that your child’s absence be excused, please call or send a note regarding each absence.  We cannot assume reason for the absence.
    • For example, if a parent calls the school informing us that their child is sick on Monday, and the child does not come to school on Tuesday, we cannot assume that the illness has continued.  When the child returns to school, one note outlining all reasons/days for the absence is sufficient.  We appreciate your support in this matter.
  • Generally, there is no problem excusing student absences for reasons such as illness, an emergency, school-approved activity, medical or dental appointments, or other reasons where arrangements are made in advance
  • At times, the administrator will not excuse absences even if the parent called or sent a note explaining the absence.  This occurs when the number of absences or tardies is excessive (such as more than 10 absences in the school year.)
    • Thus, vacations may not be excused if there are many other absences, and a doctor’s note may be required if there are many absences due to illness.  Parents will be informed by the attendance officer or the school administrator if a doctor’s note is required, usually an uncommon requirement.
