A public information meeting is scheduled for tomorrow night at Timber Ridge School to discuss the new elementary school that will be built nearby.
Architects will reveal initial plans and answer questions.
The meeting is scheduled for Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria.
Events commemorating Sept. 11, 2001, took place around the country today. American Legion Post 10 in Albany, and other local sponsors, organized a memorial event at the Linn County Courthouse this morning.
Post 10 member David Solomon was the master of ceremonies. He was a first responder in New York that day as a medic. Sheriff Riley was also a speaker.
Jim Haggart, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent, represented the District in his service dress uniform.
Mr. Haggart was a Navy pilot and retired as a Captain after 30 years of active duty, serving his last assignment at the Navy and Marine Corps ROTC Unit at Oregon State University.
Kathy Clunes from South Shore Elementary School will help facilitate teacher training by participating in an online collaboration with other educators around the state to improve science education.
Clunes was selected to be one of 40 facilitators through an extensive application process. The project is scheduled to run from October to April and is funded through a Math Science Partnership Grant from the Oregon Department of Education.
The Oregon Science Project was launched in the winter of 2017 to bring educators together in community for regional leadership in support of the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards/Oregon 2014 Science Standards.
Memorial eighth grader Paige Rogers is the Oregon Statewide Spelling Champion. earned the title in the annual state competition at the Oregon State Fair in Salem on Sept. 2.
Paige advanced to the state contest after winning the district and county competitions in her age division in the spring.

School started this week for most students, but class doesn’t start for kindergarten students until Sept. 11.
To get ready for the youngest students, kindergarten teachers and school staff are doing one-on-one interviews and initial assessments of each child. The interview is conducted in the classrooms, which helps incoming kindergartners become accustomed to his or her new surroundings.
Tangent Elementary School offers a kindergarten jumpstart for the children as well. On , Sept. 7, half of the kindergarten class will come to school for an abbreviated schedule of several hours where they will meet half of their new classmates and begin learning the classroom routine. On Sept. 8, the other half of the kindergarten class will come to school for a similar program. All students will start school on Sept. 11.
