Built in 1949, Waverly Elementary School is proudly educating its third generation of Albany children. Located on a spacious 10 acre campus. Waverly serves a diverse population from central and northeast Albany.

Our School Is Proud To Offer

School-wide Technology Program
A lab of 30 online computers. Intermediate students act as mentors for younger students. Teachers are learning computer applications skills along with students.

Family Resource Room
Provides a welcome to new families by our Family Resource Coordinator. Families are connected to community services.

Accelerated Reading Program
Computer generated tests check reading comprehension on the adopted reading series and other literature.

Lunchtime Activities
Student Store:
All fourth and fifth graders work for two weeks learning school-to-work skills.
Technology Lab:
Students reinforce their learning using software and the Internet.
Title Recess:
Uses crafts, games, and computers to teach strategies and skills in a fun atmosphere.
Lunch Buddies:
Community members mentor students through regular lunch-time visits.

Parents Are Our Partners

Kindergarten Parent Nights
Monthly family dinner meetings are held to engage in activities to enrich learning.

Grandparents Program
Seniors spend time in the school working one-on-one with students.

Parent Club
Parents meet twice monthly to discuss parent issues and fundraising activities, provides funding for school-wide assemblies, library books, playground equipment.

All of our teachers and assistants who work with children are considered to be "Highly Qualified" by Federal standards. Our Focus For Improvement

  • Increase students' reading fluency and decoding skills in Grades K-2.
  • Increase students' reading fluency and comprehension skills in Grades 3-5.
  • Increase students' writing skills in Grades K-5.
